We are excited to announce a new local chapter in the United Kingdom!
Graham and Rebecca Winkle are the new co-chairs of the LDS Earth Stewardship UK Group. They live on a small farm in Scarfskerry, Scotland, a village in the Scottish Highlands. They run a garden design business and are also children’s book authors and illustrators! Rebecca currently serves as a primary president and Graham is on the Aberdeen Stake high council. They are the parents of five children.
Graham says, “We have lived in the far North of Scotland for 20 years now since we decided to become self-sufficient and raise our own animals and grow our own food…Before we came here to Scotland we had always loved nature, but had very little hands-on experience. We have learned as you begin to grow your own food and eat it you appreciate so much more the lives of every living creature involved in the process and how you and everything else is so interconnected. We would really like to help people see these connections and as they do so begin to also see our Creator testifying in everything that lives.
We have had the most amazing, difficult, spectacular, annoying, wonderful, bizarre, extraordinary, hilarious times working and raising our children with and in the natural world. Doing the simple things on our smallholding like weeding or feeding animals every day helps you to recognise the awe-inspiring beauty around you and somehow you feel the rest of creation embrace you.”
After hearing about LDS Earth Stewardship and joining a few live meetings in the wee hours of the morning, Rebecca and Graham decided to start a chapter closer to home. They hope to expand stewardship groups across the United Kingdom.
