“Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with prudence and thanksgiving.”
D&C 89:11
The principles of the Word of Wisdom are great for the health of our hearts—physically and spiritually! By eating meat sparingly and gratefully, our reverence towards the Lord’s animals increases. As we reduce our food waste, we are more mindful of our brothers and sisters in need.
Our invitation for February is to help your physical and spiritual heart by considering your eating habits. We provide some resources, ideas, and questions in hopes of sparking inspiration, but it’s up to you what small, simple stewardship step you take this month:
- Read the Word of Wisdom, especially D&C 89:10–15, 18-20 (see also D&C 49:19–21 and 59:18–19). Consider how the principles taught in these verses can guide your choices and attitudes towards food.
- Listen to Sister Sharon Eubank talk for 3 minutes about reducing food waste at the 2020 Fall Forum (1:48–4:09). Can you think of a creative solution to your food waste?
- Watch this video on sustainable eating, where Ellen White teaches how to make your food choices healthier for you and for Creation; connect with her directly by attending her In the Company of Stewards presentation on Tuesday, February 16th. Check out the recipes, books, and other online resources she shared for more ideas!
We hope these invitations help you cultivate a more Creation-friendly lifestyle, line upon line and precept upon precept. As you find your own way to be a better steward, share your inspired actions on social media—don’t forget to tag us and use both #EverySaintASteward and #SmallAndSimpleStewardship!
